Brad Mehldau Trio at UJ21 on July 14

Share

The Brad Mehldau Trio, with Larry Grenadier on bass and Jeff Ballard on drums, will share the stage of the Santa Giuliana Arena with the Branford Marsalis Quartet on July 14.

The Trio will replace the MoodSwing project, of which Mehldau himself was part of.

His first time in Perugia was in 1993, a little-known pianist of the Joshua Redman Quartet. His debut as a soloist took place in 1997, in the magical nights at La Turrenetta.

Since then, he’s frequently been included in the program, both in Perugia and in Orvieto, and has become a fan favorite. A mutual love, since his album “Places” is dedicated to the places which left a mark on his memory, and one of the most beautiful tracks of that record is called Perugia. Brad Mehldau is today one of the most successful and all-around pianists, thanks to his intensity which makes him one with his piano. His piano trio recalls the best examples expressed by this difficult and elegant ensemble, from Bill Evans to Keith Jarrett. For that reason, he dared to record five albums with this trio, a small miracle of balance, and entitle them “The Art of the Trio” without anyone complaining about that title which might have sounded conceited.
